Robotics and PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers) are the heart of modern automation. PLC's allow for the automation of complex production systems on a factory scale. They are used to control conveyers, assembly cells, manufacturing cells, etc. Robots are often used to complete repetitive, or dangerous tasks at a faster and more efficient rate then possible by a human.
