Areas of Interest

Dr. Allen's research interest focuses on using optimization and simulation to either generate solutions directory or to create learning control systems with examples including optimal experimental design and "Fast" Bayesian Reinforcement Learning. His research applications include cyber maintenance planning for the internet of things, condition-based maintenance in manufacturing, timely decision analysis enabled by social media analytics, and simulation optimization to aid in reducing in-person waiting in election systems. His research has been funded by NSF, AFRL, ARCYBER, Honda, Ford, GE Appliances, AFRL, EWI, and others. His textbooks and chapters have been sold in over 10 countries. He serves as an associate editor and simulation area editor of Computers & Industrial Engineering (IF: 2.6), an associate editor of Quality Approaches in Education, and as president-elect of the INFORMS social media analytics section.
