SME Ohio State Chapter Recognized in Digital Manufacturing Challenge
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Ohio State chapter recently was recently recognized as an “honorable mention” in the national SME Digital Manufacturing Challenge competition for their work on "Additively Manufactured Hot Beverage Maker for Automobiles". The competition asked students to create “innovative automotive aftermarket peripherals that integrate and exploit the best of digital design, additive and subtractive tools/technologies to create and showcase your vision of a unique automotive feature or function”.
Ohio State’s team, formed of Mark Varner (MAE), Isaac Flemming (MAE), Jerry Huang (ISE), and Morgan Bernard (ISE), created a solution for tired drivers. They created a device for on-the-go coffee brewing. Their extensive report included information about the design integration and innovation, social and environmental impact, and a cost-benefit analysis all simulating a realistic product from beginning production to end consumer. For their award of honorable mention the team will receive a certificate, recognition of the report on the official SME national website, and the opportunity to attend the SME national conference to receive their certificates on stage.
