ISE Welcomes New Faculty Member in Data Analytics and Data-Driven Optimization

Sam Davanloo Tajbakhsh, Ph.D. has accepted a tenure track faculty position focusing on data analytics and data-driven optimization. He is currently a visiting assistant professor in the department of Statistics at Virginia Tech affiliated with the Computational Modeling and Data Analytics (CMDA) program and will begin his appointment as Assistant Professor with ISE in August of 2016.

Sam Davanloo Tajbakhsh was born in Tehran, Iran. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the Pennsylvania State University in December 2015 advised by Enrique del Castillo and Necdet Serhat Aybat. Along with his Ph.D. studies, he also earned a M.Sc. in Statistics in 2013. Sam’s research interests include statistical learning from high-dimensional data using large-scale convex optimization algorithms, Fitting spatiotemporal models e.g. Gaussian Random Field (GRF), L1 minimization for sparse graphical modeling.
