Reliability Impacts of Natural Gas Price

My research has focused on modeling the wholesale electricity market to study the reliability impact of natural gas price and analyze the broad impact of wind integration on electric power system and study how the existing U.S. energy system can most efficiently transition to a renewable-dominated system.

Natural gas price has a direct impact on the reliability of a power system and would have a long- and short-run effect. This study examines the short-run impact of natural gas price on the reliability of an electrical power system using the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power system as a case study. We compared the reliability of the power system during a high natural gas price to the time that a natural gas price is low using the reliability indices. We found that the power system is more reliable when the natural gas price is high.
